How to Save Money When Going out to Eat

Posted on: 28 November 2016

If you would like to go out to eat more often without feeling guilty, you will want to learn about some of the various ways in which you can save some money while doing so.

Buy Discounted Gift Cards

Some people will receive gift cards to various restaurants that they do not want to use or simply do not have time to use. Since they cannot get a refund in place of the gift card, they may sell them online for a price that is cheaper than the value of the card. This entices people to want to buy the gift card because they can get more for their money and they can get cash that they can use to purchase something else. Just make sure that you are receiving proof that the card currently has its full balance on it. There are also some online companies that sell nothing but discounted gift cards or gift certificates that you can check out as well.

Look for the Free Food in Place of Purchasing Appetizers

If you know of a place that gives a lot of biscuits, bread sticks, or even tortilla chips and salsa for free as you wait for your meals to finish cooking, you might want to stick to those places because you may be less likely to order any of the appetizers from the menu. The purpose of the appetizers is to give you a little something to eat while you wait for your main meal, so, if you can go to a restaurant that gives you something to snack on for free, you can save a substantial amount of money.

Go to Dinner an Hour before the Dinner Hour Begins

This might mean that you have to eat dinner a little earlier one night, but, if you can save money by ordering a meal from the usually less expensive lunch menu, it might be worth it. Even if you are still eating your meal once their dinner hour begins, you are still going to end up with a more affordable bill. Also, the more you save on the cost of your meal, the more money you save on the tip for your waiter or waitress since you base your tip size on the size of your final bill.
